Simple Timetable (no "sessions")

Hi all,

Several conferences I am involved with have a need for a much simpler timetable than Indico provides. I mean a simple 2-dimensional time and space timetable. Specifically, a timetable that says “where” and “when” a contribution will happen, but doesn’t require grouping contributions into sessions etc. In this style, each column would be a presentation room, and on the vertical axis, there would be the time of day.

Does such a simple, no “sessions”, set the times and places then drag-drop the contributions in there, timetable exist as an Indico plugin somewhere?

If not, would others be interested in collaborating on building one? I can perhaps secure some funding, but any idea where I would find developers who could be contracted to do the actual programming?

Any works-in-progress out there I might be able to contribute to?

I made a little mockup. Rooms vertically along the top, times down the side.

What say you all? Can this be done? Has this been done?

Cheers

BTW, I have seen some conferences try to use sessions and session blocks as “rooms” with the problem that as the sessions are populated with contributions, the order each session/column appears in is not consistent. Hence in the example above on one day it might be ordered “Room A → Room B” then on the following day, it’s reversed to “Room B → Room A” this has created all manner of confusion even causing some to use colour coding to communicate which room a session is in. Of course there are accessibility issues with this approach, so I don’t think these hacky workarounds are viable.

If this would help you already: The ordering of sessions in a timetable can be fixed by using session codes. When the sessions have codes their blocks are ordered according to the codes.

That is a fantastic tip, thank you!
