Manifest.json missing on initial load of Indico

Getting:

OSError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/home/user/dev/indico/src/indico/web/static/dist/manifest.json'

,on first load of Indico after following the dev installation steps here:

https://docs.getindico.io/en/stable/installation/development/

The only step I skipped is fab setup_deps because I was getting the following error:

(env) user@ubuntu-server:~/dev/indico/src$ fab setup_deps

Fatal error: Couldn't find any fabfiles!

Remember that -f can be used to specify fabfile path, and use -h for help.

Aborting.

You installed from git master using the “stable” docs (for 2.1). Please follow the “latest” docs instead:

Your npm version is ancient. sudo npm install -g npm to update.

node 8 is a bit old as well; I’d install node 10: https://github.com/nodesource/distributions/blob/master/README.md
This might actually come with a newer npm version so you can possiblt skip the above command.
