Listing talks co-hosted between a conference and series: i.e. show a lecture on a conference timetable

During conferences, we’ll often have a talk that is shared between the conference and one of our seminar series. A conference participant will give a talk at one of our seminar series and we’ll want the talk listed both in the category for that series and on the timetable to the conference.

The same thing happens with social events, where we’ll schedule a social event at the same time as a conference and we’ll want the conference participants included, so we’ll want to list it on the conference time table.

In both cases it would be showing a lecture from another category on the conference time table.

Is there a way to do this in Indico besides creating a placeholder on the timetable that has a link in it?

No, this is not possible, and it also sounds like something that would add a very large amount of complexity, since an event cannot be in another event’s timetable.

There are all kinds of issues that could come up with this:

  • What if you cannot access the referenced event?
  • What if someone changes the referenced event’s date/time to one outside the other event’s timetable?

(and those are just the two things that came to my mind straight away)

I think a placeholder contribution like “Lecture: …” with a link to the real event in the description and/or material would be ideal.
